The Steelers will look awful today

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to look awful against the Washington Redskins today.

Not necessarily in their performance or on the scoreboard [though one can hope!], but when it comes to their uniforms, the Steelers plan to commit a war crime against good taste this afternoon in Pittsburgh. The Steelers will be wearing their throwback uniforms today, which look like this. [Small children please avert your eyes.]

Well, like the title reads, Washington Redskins tailback Alfred Morris won NFL Rookie of the Week honors for week seven. Morris ran for 122 yards on 20 carries against the defending Super Bowl champiion New York Giants last Sunday in a 27-23 Redskins loss.

Morris now has 658 rushing yards, third in the NFL behind Adrian Peterson [who has played one more game] and Arian Foster [who has one more yard]. Morris is averaging 94 rushing yards per game, which puts him on a pace to rush for just over 1500 yards in his rookie season. Morris' 4.8 yards per carry is fifth in the NFL among rushers with at least 100 attempts.

Terps Denied By NCAA: Dez Wells

Written by tomblaz on . Posted in College sports

The NCAA has denied immediate eligibility for Terps transfer Dez Wells. Maryland coach Mark Turgeon plans an appeal. Wells transferred from Xavier after getting kicked out of school due to sexual assault allegations that a grand jury declined to prosecute. The 6'5" sophomore averaged nearly ten points and five rebounds last season on his way to freshman of the year honors in the conference. NCAA regulations require a player sit out a season after transferring. Wells case is unique in that he is NCAA eligible, but no longer part of the Xavier program. Worst case scenario, Wells suits up next Fall with three years of eligibility remaining,

Pierre Garcon's ongoing injury saga

Written by Mark Buterbaugh on . Posted in Washington Redskins

The ongoing injury saga of expensive free agent WR Pierre Garcon continues for the Washington Redskins.  It has been confrimed that Garcon suffers from a plantar plate tear on the bottom of his right foot.  There is no time table for Garcon's return, but he is not expected to return before the Washington bye week, which is two weeks from now, Week 10.

Garcon apparently origianlly felt the injury during pre-season, but it was obviously not as bad as it is now.  He continued practice and playing.  Garcon then syas he heard a 'pop' during the New Orleans game, which was likely the actual tear itself.

After inking a five-year, $42.5 million contract with the Redskins in the off-season, Garcon has appeared in just three games and has a total of 8 receptions, a big one coming in week one, an 88 yard TD grab against the Saints.  It was that TD reception that Garcon reportedly felt  the pop in his foot.  He did not play in the second half of the opening week win over the New Orleans Saints.

Wizards Beat The Heat

Written by tomblaz on . Posted in Washington Wizards

Martell Webster and Chris Singleton combined for 40 points, leading the Wizards to a 101-94 win over Miami.

Washington trailed by 14 at the half, but with Lebron James sitting out the fourth quarter, the Wizards fought all the way back. Dwayne Wade led Miami with 23 points, Chris Bosh added 18 and James finished with 13.

"We came out in the third quarter and turned the ball over too much," James said. "That allowed them to get back in the game. We can learn from every game, no matter if it's preseason."

Washington wraps up exhibition play on Friday night in San Antonio. The regular season tips off on Tuesday with the Wizards in Cleveland.
