Fantasy Pulse: Week 7 Extra Point

Written by Adam Jennings on . Posted in Fantasy Sports Coverage

Oakland Raiders 26, Jacksonville Jaguars 23

Jaguars- The big news from this one is the injury to RB Maurice Jones-Drew.  With MJD likely missing time, Rashad Jennings becomes an instant pick-up.  Jennings can be safely used as a RB2.  WR Cecil Shorts scored his third TD of the season and is a decent bye week filler.

Raiders- TE Brandon Myers has emerged as a quality backup TE in PPR leagues.  Myers has at least 4 receptions in five of his team's six games.  He has yet to catch a TD this year, but he's good for about 10 points a week in PPR leagues.

New England Patriots 29, New York Jets 26

Jets- WR Jeremy Kerley is quickly emerging as a quality WR3 (7 receptions for 120 yards).  Kerley should be owned in all leagues.  RB Shonn Greene has now strung together two quality games (88 total yards and a score) and has regained his RB2 status.

Patriots- WR Brandon Lloyd got the looks (8 targets), but didn't get the production (1 reception for 6 yards).  Don't be concerned, Lloyd is going to get hot soon.  Keep starting your Pats' receiving options (TEs Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, WRs Wes Welker and Lloyd).

The World's Most Prestigious Power Poll: Week 8

Written by Thomas Threlkeld on . Posted in World's Most Prestigious Power Poll

DISCUSS THIS IN OUR FAN FORUM!

The World's Most Prestigious Power Poll is more stable this week, with only big mover down and no teams vaulting up the list. The Falcons have not been beaten, but they haven't looked great every week. Will Atlanta or any other team seize the mantle of greatness? We'll see. Enjoy.

01. Atlanta Falcons [6-0]: Bye week holds Matt Ryan to only two TD passes. [NC]

02. New York Giants [5-2]: Chance to get some distance in the division by beating the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday. [NC]

03. Houston Texans [6-1]: 30-point win over the Ravens proves the Texans are a lot more than Bryan Cushing. [NC]

04. San Francisco 49ers [4-2]: Niners are a good team, but they can't be great unless Alex Smith stops turning the ball over. [+1]

05. Chicago Bears [5-1]: Look ready to challenge Giants, Niners and Packers for NFC mastery. [+1]

06. Green Bay Packers [4-3]: Defense needs work, but Rodgers is reminding everyone why he's the reigning MVP. [+1]

07. New England Patriots [4-3]: Almost lost another 4th quarter lead. Maybe they're just not as good as everyone thought. [+1]

08. Denver Broncos [3-3]: Got thru the a brutal early schedule and now should coast to 11+ wins and the division title. [+1]

09. Baltimore Ravens [5-2]: Defense collapsed without Webb & Lewis, but that doesn't explain Flacco taking the week off. [-5]

10. Seattle Seahawks [4-3]: Might win the Super Bowl if they could play every game at home. [NC]

11. Minnesota Vikings [5-2]: I'd like to see some DNA tests to prove Adrian Peterson is human. [NC]

12. Pittsburgh Steelers [3-3]: Almost nobody is noticing that Ben Roethlisberger is having a great year. [NC]

13. Arizona Cardinals [4-3]: Won first four, lost last three & with Packers & Niners coming up, they'll be under .500 by the bye week. [-]

13. Philadelphia Eagles [3-3]: 30th in the NFL in scoring points so they fired the defesnive coordinator. That's life in Philly, baby. [+1]

14. Dallas Cowboys [3-3]: How is a team with so much talent on offense only 25th in the NFL in scoring? [+1]

15. Washington Redskins [3-4]: RG3 is the most dynamic player in the NFL, but he needs more help than he's getting. [+1]

17. San Diego Chargers [3-3]: I hope Norv Turner spent the bye week putting his house on the market. [NC]

18. St. Louis Rams [3-4]: Lost two straight with the Niners and Patriots coming up on the schedule. [NC]

19. Miami Dolphins [3-3]: Winnable road games against the Jets and Colts in the next two weeks. [NC]

20. Cincinnati Bengals [3-4]: Losers of 3 straight, the bye week is coming at a good time for the Bengals. [-]

21. New Orleans Saints [2-4]: Their defense gets to face Peyton Manning coming off a bye week. I think we know how this will end. [+1]

22. Detroit Lions [2-4]: Can't blame Matt Millen for this. [-1]

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers [2-4]: Try to stay in bounds. [NC]

24. New York Jets [3-4]: Sanchez & Jets showing some fight despite loss of their best players. [NC]

27. Buffalo Bills [3-4]: Worst defense money can buy. [-2]

25. Tennessee Titans [3-4]: Chris Johnson quickly turning his season around. [+2]

26. Indianapolis Colts [3-3]: Andrew Luck does his RG3 imitation and it works. [NC]

27. Buffalo Bills [3-4]: Worst defense money can buy. [-2]

28. Carolina Panthers [1-5]: 28th offense in scoring and Cam has more turnovers than touchdowns. [-]

29. Oakland Raiders [2-4]: Not a good sign if you need overtime to beat the Jaguars. [NC]

30. Cleveland Browns [1-6]: Bad sign to score 13 points on that terrible Colts defense. [NC]

31. Jacksonville Jaguars [1-5]: And now Maurice Jones-Drew is injured... [NC]

32. Kansas City Chiefs [1-5]: Got Oakland coming out of their bye week so if they're going to win another game, now is the time . [NC]

BIG MOVER UP: Tennessee Titans +2. BIG MOVER DOWN: Baltimore Ravens -5.

Chris Cooley back with the Redskins

Written by Thomas Threlkeld on . Posted in Washington Redskins

DISCUSS THE REDSKINS IN OUR FAN FORUM

Captain Chaos is back. That's right, TE Chris Cooley, one of the most beloved Redskins of the last decade, has returned to the team that released him during the preseason.

Cooley passed his physical this morning and signed a contract to return to the team that drafted him in the third round in 2004, the only NFL team he has ever played for.

Cooley replaces injured TE Fred Davis, who tore his Achllies Tendon in the first half against the Giants yesterday. Davis, the team's leading receiver with 23 catches for 312 yards entering yesterday's game, will be out for the remainder of the season. The team also has Logan Paulsen and Niles Paul at tight end, though Paul is still learning the position. Paulsen caught 4 passes for 76 yards in relief of Davis yesterday.

For you fantasy footballers out there, ESPN expert Eric Karabell recommends those who had Fred Davis should move on, perhaps to another Redskins tight end. Not necessarily the one you might, think, though.

Report: Pierre Garcon has torn tendon in foot

Written by Mark Buterbaugh on . Posted in Washington Redskins

According to numerous report, including this one from Pro Football Talk, apparently Redskins WR Pierre Garcon is suffering from a minor tendon tear in his foot.

Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Garçon has a torn tendon in his foot in addition to the inflamed capsule under his toe that the Redskins have announced as the cause of his absence from the lineup. Per Garafolo, Garçon is likely to sit out until after the team’s Week 10 bye in order to be in the best possible shape for the final seven games of the season

Bad news here is, the Redskins will continue without their high paid, number one wide receiver for at least three weeks.  Even worse, the Redskins offense already lost their leading receiver, TE Fred Davis, who will miss the rest of the season with a achilles tendon tear.  If there is a bright spot in any of this, it is the fact the Redskins passing game has already learned to surivive without Garcon.   Robert Griffin III has learned to spread the ball around to multiple receivers quite well.

The two big free agent additions, Garcon and Safety Brandon Meriweather, have played a combined three games this season.  They were all by Garcon.  Garcon has a whopping 8 receptions.  Meriweather has not even seen the field. He almost did, but then got hurt in pre-game warmups three weeks ago when he collided with WR Aldrick Robinson.

Monday Morning Redskins Pundit Report; Week 7

Written by Mark Buterbaugh on . Posted in Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins dropped a heart breaker yesterday to the New York Giants, 26-23.  Madieu Williams bit on a short route and allowed a bomb pass from Eli Manning to Victor Cruz to respond to an RGIII led touchdown that gave the Redskins a 23-20 late fourth quarter lead.  So what did the media pundits have to say about the Redskins the morning after.  Find out here.

CBS Sports, Clark Judge, Judements

Washington's Robert Griffin III may indeed be the "Black Jesus," as teammate Fred Davis said, but even he can't save a franchise that hasn't done much in years. But that has nothing to do with RG3, who is the most electrifying rookie we've seen in a long time, and it has everything to do with turnovers. The Redskins had four in the second half Sunday. They had five in their first six games. Check, please.

Judge did not like ...

That means the Redskins just subtracted their leading receiver, and that's a blow. With RG3 lighting up opponents, Washington looked like a darkhorse waiting to happen in the NFC East.

Response:  We agree Clark. Any fan that doubts Robert Griffin II is either unknowledable to in denial.  Many will argue he is the best quarterback in the NFL right now, even as a rookie.  Hwoever, even with RGIII playing the way he is, electrifying, and many drives, unstoppable, RGIII does not play cornerback or safety.  Yes, turnovers killed the Redskins.  Teams generally do not win turning the ball over five times.  However, the secondary coverage is going to be a weekly problem, has been a weekly

Fantasy Pulse: Week 7

Written by Adam Jennings on . Posted in Fantasy Sports Coverage

San Francisco 49ers 13, Seattle Seahawks 6

Seahawks- This is more of a general statement, but Thursday games are becoming a real pain to fantasy owners.  Through six weeks, an NFL game sees an average of 47 points.  A Thursday (and one Wednesday game) night NFL game (including WK 7s game) is seeing an average of 35 points.  That's two full TD's under average.  What this tells us is that you should only be using the elite talent involved in these games.  RB Marshawn Lynch continues to produce (103 yards rushing), but he needs to start scoring some TDs.

49ers- RB Frank Gore had another solid game (183 total yards), but suffered bruised ribs along the way.  Don't fret though, with 10 days before his next game, Gore should be good to go.  Gore is the only Niner you should be trusting in your starting lineup.

Tennessee Titans 35, Buffalo Bills 34

Titans- After exploding for 195 yards, RB Chris Johnson has now strung together two solid games in a row.  This is promising, but I'm still not entirely sold on his reemergence.  Of course if you have Johnson, you likely wasted a high pick on him and won't be taking him out of your lineup, so take the time now to unload him while his value is high again.

Bills- The Bills tandem of RBs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller continue to be excellent fantasy options.  Besides them, WR Stevie Johnson (5 receptions for 71 yards and a score) is the only other high quality option.

Redskins reach out to Cooley

Written by Mark Buterbaugh on . Posted in Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins have reached out to former Redskins tight end and fan favorite Chris Cooley.  According to multiple sources, a deal is expected to be finalized soon.

Redskins lost starting TE Fred Davis for the season today with an Achilles tear.  Cooley makes sense because he knows the Redskins offense, is in the area, us a fan favorite, and knows the team.  However, I still hope Cooley will be used as depth.  I woud Iike to see the Redskins continue to give Logan Paulsen the dance.  He us an excellent blocker and has great hands.
