Fantasy Pulse: Week 4

Written by Adam Jennings on . Posted in Fantasy Sports Coverage

Baltimore Ravens 23, Cleveland Browns 16

Browns- I can't preach this enough, the only Brown you should be starting at this point is RB Trent Richardson (104 total yards and a TD).

Ravens- After a couple of off weeks, WR Anquan Boldin came back to fantasy relevancy (9 receptions, 131 yards).  People who bought into TE David Pitta got burned big time in Week 4 (0 points on two targets).  Don't give up on him, he'll bounce back.

Atlanta Falcons 30, Carolina Panthers 28

Panthers- I wouldn't drop him just yet, but WR Brandon LaFell should be left on your bench (3 receptoins for 27 yards over the last two weeks).  QB Cam Newton had a productive day (86 yards rushing, 3 total TDs) and is safe to get back into your lineup every week.  RBs Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams continue to split carries.  I'd say they have extremely similar fantasy value, which isn't much (flex play/ bye week filler).

Falcons- You aren't going to start benching WR Julio Jones, but his productivity has been very inconsistent so far.  If you can get decent value for him, I would definitely take a deal for a WR with a little more consistency.  Don't get me wrong, I still consider Jones a Top 20 WR, but he's boom or bust, which can be a killer to your fantasy success.

New England Patriots 52, Buffalo Bills 28

Patriots- And that sound you hear is the window for buying low on the Patriots closing.  All of the big guns (QB Tom Brady, RB Stevan Ridley, WR Wes Welker, WR Brandon Lloyd and TE Rob Gronkowski) had highly productive days.  Watch out for RB Brandon Bolden.  His stats were definitely skewed by what he did in garbage time, but it certainly looks like he'll be getting goal line looks.  Pick him up.

Bills- Now that both RBs (Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller) are healthy, it'll be interesting to see how this situation plays out.  When both of them are in lineup, they greatly hurt each other's value.  They both still have solid value, but, at best, they are each RB2s (until one of them inevitably misses time).

Minnesota Vikings 20, Detroit Lions 13

Vikings- The Vikings picked up the win, but didn't do much fantasy wise.  RB Adrian Peterson had the only notable performance (102 yards rushing).  WR Jerome Simpson played his first game of the season (4 receptions for 50 yards on 5 targets).  If you're in need of receiver help, Simpson is a decent depth pickup.

Lions- If you have a chance to acquire QB Matthew Stafford, now's the time to do it.  Stafford only has 3 TDs on the season, but is averaging 296 yard a game.  The TDs will come.

San Diego Chargers 37, Kansas City Chiefs 20

Chargers- By giving RB Jackie Battle 15 carries, the Chargers sent a clear message to RB Ryan Mathews that he needs to protect the ball better.  Until Mathews starts proving himself, Battle has decent short term value and if you own Mathews, definitely pick him up.

Chiefs- Beyond RB Jamaal Charles and WR Dwayne Bowe, the Chiefs offer little fantasty value.  QB Matt Cassell only has value as a bye week filler.

St. Louis Rams 19, Seattle Seahawks 13

Seahawks- The only Seahawk you should trust on a weekly basis is RB Marshawn Lynch (118 yards and a score).

Rams-  Another team that offers fantasy owners little is the Rams.  Keep starting RB Steven Jackson and WR Danny Amendola; leave all other Rams on the waiver wire.

San Francisco 49ers 34, New York Jets 0

49ers- It's getting awfully difficult trusting the Niners.  TE Vernon Davis isn't leaving your starting lineup.  RB Frank Gore continues to produce.  RB Kendall Hunter showed signs of life (56 yards and a TD), but he's only RB depth.  QB Alex Smith isn't having an awful year (5 TDs to 1 INT), but he's averaging less than 200 yards passing a game.  That's not someone you want as your starting fantasy QB.

Jets- It seems that every team has at least one player with unquestioned fantasy value, but with WR Santonio Holmes likely missing some time, the Jets have no one that you should be starting.  Looking at their lineup, the only other player worthy of being on your roster is RB Shonn Greene.  However, he only has 191 yards on 68 carries, so he should remain on your bench.
