Redskins Release Jansen
The longest tenured Redskin, is no more. The Washington Redskins released OT Jon Jansen after ten seasons, the last few of which have been plagued with injuries.
Jansen had been one of the most solid and loyal Redskins over the past decade, after being selected in the second round of the 1999 draft, one round after the Redskins selected Champ Bailey. he was a mainstay at RT for a good 7 years before he suffered a season ending achilles injury in 2004. Jansen never seem to regain the intensity and moves he had prior to that injury.
is a perfect example.] The release of Jansen lowers the number of players in that group by one. Jason LaCanfora believes Jansen's release is evidence that Head Coach Jim Zorn still has some power of personnel decisions.UPDATE 2: Head Coach Jim Zorn lays out the reasoning for cutting Jansen: He didn't look better at right tackle than he did last year and it didn't appear as if he could play other positions on the offensive line well enough to merit a spot on the roster.
