The Washington Capitals have given Alexander Semin another short contract, one year. Today, the Caps agreed to a one year contract extension for the right-winger. The deal is worth a reported $6.7 million.Semin got off to a hot start this season, racking up 18 goals and 17 assists in 39 games. However, much like Semin has a tendency of doing, he disappeared the entire month of December, scoring 0 goals and 5 assists. He only played 3 games in January and recorded no points. Semin has been on the IR as of January 9.
The chief criticism of Semin over the years has been the inconsistency in his play. He is well know for hot scoring streaks, followed by significant cold spells, and at times appears to lack full out effort. He has also been an attractive topic of message boards, blogs, and hockey media in trade deadline speculations.
Semin is expected to return to the Capitals lineup after Sunday’s NHL All Star Game.
