Caps Poll: Buyers or Sellers

Written by Mark Buterbaugh on . Posted in Washington Capitals

With another humiliating loss last night in Ottawa, the Washington Capitals brass is approaching the NHL trade deadline in a starkly contrasting situation than they anticipated.  With the 5-2 loss last night, the Capitals sit in an embarassing 10th place in the Eastern Conference, just three points from dropping to 11th place and 6 points from dropping into dead last in the Southeast Division.  The roster is pathetically awful on ice and the firing of Bruce Boudreau and hiring of Dale Hunter was an obvious change that made very little difference on ice or in the locker room.  This team has quit on its fans!

The NHL Trade Deadline is just FOUR days away, Monday February 27th.  So the question becomes, with the Caps further slipping out of playoff contention, do the Capitals suddenly become sellers at the deadline, or do they remain buyers to make a playoff push?  Names mentioned as possible trade rumors are F Alexander Semin, D Roman Hamrlik, and F Mike Knuble.
