Congratulations to Caps rookie net minder Braden Holtby.  Holtby has been named a First Star of the Week by the NHL.

What a terrific week the kid has had.  He has won four consecutive games since being recalled from Hershey because of another injury to Semyon Varlamov.  In those 4 wins, Holtby has faced 114 shot son net and saved 100 of those shots.  That is a save percentage of .965.  He has improved his overall record to 8-2-2 with an impressive GAA of 1.95 and a save percentage of .930.

Even more so for Holtby, he has catapulted his name directly into the discussion in Washington  on who is the future net minder, previously dominated by Varlamov and Michal Neuvirth.  It is a pleasant problem to have for any hockey franchise, to try and juggle three goalies, all under the age of 23.  One thing is becoming pretty clear though, the Caps will likely need to move one of these goal tenders in the off-season.   Holtby has shown the capitals over the past week that the AHL may very well be behind him and that he is NHL ready.

Congratulations Braden Holtby!
