Caps switch ECHL affiliates
After an eight year affiliation with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL, the Washington Capitals have severed ties and affiliated with the Reading Royals. As a basis of background, the ECHL is comparable to MLB's Do0uble AA. Washington has a standing affiliation with the AHL's Hershey Bears, comparable to MLB's AAA. The new affiliation agreement replaces the agreement with South Carolina and the Washington Capitals and Hershey Bears will server as a feeder for player designations to Reading.
The affiliation makes sense from a geographical standpoint as well. With the ECHL affiliate being in Reading, Pennsylvania, the affiliate is just 2 hours and 46 minutes to Washington, DC and more importantly a quick hour commute from Hershey to Reading.
