The Washington Capitals did not make it easy. However, they got the two big points they needed to move into a tie for the eighth and final playoff spot with the Buffalo Sabres. The Caps win in dramatic fashion, going four rounds in the shootout before Brooks Laich buried the Bruins.

The Caps and Bruins skated to a scoreless tie the first two periods of play. Washington then took a quick 2 goal lead at the 7:59 mark when The Caps got a three on two breakaway and Alex Ovechkin sent a pass to Marcus Johansson who fed a wide open Dennis Wideman to give the Caps a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, the Caps got another rush on goal and Ovechkin this time fed Johnasson for the 2-0 lead.

Boston would score at the 16:50 and 18:44 marks of the final frame, goals by David Krejci and Andrew Ference, to ultimately force overtime.

Matt Hendricks and Brooks Laich led the Capitals with tallies in the shootout.

Tomas Vokoun started the game for the Caps but only lasted one period, succumbing to injury again. Neuvirth took over and earned the win, stopping 19 of 21 shots on net.

Caps got an important two points to even up the eighth spot with Buffalo. Buffalo has five games left in the season and Caps have four. Buffalo faces the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow night. Like it or not Caps fans, you are ultimately Pens fans for one night tomorrow.
