On the Ice: Caps roster shuffle

The Washington Capitals, fresh off a 5-3 win over the New York Rangers last night, improving the club record to 11-4.

Caps made some minor roster moves today.

Caps G Semyon Varlamov was officially assigned to Hershey (AHL).  HC Bruce Boudrea said that Varly would see game play this weekend and it appears he will take some game action at Hershey, before joining Washington next week.  Varly has not been in net since an October 21st loss to the Boston Bruins.  Varlamov tweaked a groin injury that has nagged him off and on through his young career thus far.  Michal Neuvirth has taken over starting duties from the Varlamov injury and has posted a 9-3 record.  Rookie Braden Holtby will remain in DC to back up Neuvirth through the weekend.

Marcus Johansson was recalled from Hershey.  Johansson, the Caps 2009 1st round draft pick, started the season off in Washington, but got injured on October 21.  On the season, Johansson has appeared in 6 games and has 1 goal and is a -1 rating.  Replacing Johansson in Hershey will be Dmitri Kugryshev, recalled from the ECHL South Carolina Stingrays.
