The National Hockey league annual award show televises live tonight and there are three Washington Capitals nominated for awards. I can certainly tell, you given the play of some others this season, I am a little less optimistic.
Nominated for the Capitals are: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/22/AR2010062204687.html
Alexander Ovechkin for the Hart Trophy, NHL’s MVP Award. It would be Ovechkin’s third consecutive Hart. Don’t bet on it though. Although Ovechkin ended the season with 50 goals and 59 assists while averaging a league-leading 1.51 points per game, we don’t see Ovie repeating. Our projection: Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby.
Mike Green is nominated for the second straight year for the Norris Trophy, the NHL’s award for best overall defensemen. Don’t bet on this either. Our projection: Duncan Keith.
Jose Theodore is nominated for the Bill Masterton Award, an award presented to a player who has exhibited perseverance and dedication to the game. Theo was nominated because of adversity he needed to overcome after the death of his infant child over last summer. Our projection: Jose Theodore.
Other projections: Ryan Miller to win Vezina Trophy, the NHL’s best goalie award. Phoenix’s Dave Tippett to win jack Adams Award, for NHL’s outstanding coach.
