Caps defeat Bruins 4-1
The Washington remained perfect in the pre-season defeating the Boston Bruins for the second time in consecutive night, 4-1. It did not take long for sparks to fly when Matt Hendricks, bustling for a final forward spot, dropped the gloves with the Bruins Gregory Campbell. Hendricks scored a hat trick in the Caps pre-season opener.
Nicklas Backstrom got the Capitals on the score board at the 10:28 mark of the first period. Jason Chimera fed Backstrom for the one timer to put the Capitals up 1-0. The first period ended with that score.
Jeff Schultz boomed a shot in the second period from the left point, but was tipped by Backstrom for his second goal of the night and a 2-0 Caps lead. That is how the second period would end.
It did not take the Caps long to strike in the third period. Andrew Gordon took a rebound that Tim Thomas let out from Jason Chimera to out the Caps up 3-0 at the 2:28 mark of the third period.
The Caps final two pre-season games are against Columbus and Nashville on October 1st and 3rd. The Caps were not done, thanks to Matt Bradley. Brads scored from a tap in on the left of Thomas from a pass from Boyd Gordon to give the Caps a 4-0 lead. Mark Recchi scored on the Bruins power play just thirty seconds later to pull the Bruins to a 4-1 deficit. That's where it ended, a 4-1 win for the Caps.
