Caps select Goalie Steffen Soberg

The Washington Capitals traded their first round pick, 26th overall, to Chicago for Troy Bouwer.  In what was termed a 'weak draft class" GM George McPhee felt he needed better value by getting impact now.

The Capitals next selection was not until the 117th pick.  With that pick, the Capitals selected goalie Steffen Soberg.  Not really getting the point since they are loaded with babies in the net, between young starter Michal Neuvirth, Semyon Varlamov, Braden Holtby, and 2010 draftee Phillip Grubauer.

Soberg is a goalie from Oslo, Norway, and was regarded as the 7th best goaltender available.  He posted a 4.17 GAA and a .884 save percentage to go along with five wins in 27 games last year in Norway's GET-Ligaen. In Norway 2, he posted a GAA of 3.00 and in 3 games at Mangerud U19, he posted a 2.33 GAA.

Here is what HockeysFuture had to say about Soberg.

Go read it, there is also a brief interview of Soberg.
