Caps trade Varlamov to Colorado
UPDATE: If you are a Pierre McGuire fan at TSN, his comment on the trade: "This is unbelievable what George McPhee has been able to pull off."
---
The Washington Capitals have resolved the contract dilemma with Semyon varlamov. On the day of free agency, the Capitals have dealth the Russian net minder to the Colorado Avalance. In return, Washington obtains Colorado's first round draft pick in 2012 and the Avs 2nd round pick in 2012 or 2013.
Good deal for Washington. Valrmov gets the starting role he wanted, Washington gets a price in return for Varlamov. Considering they were on the verge of losing Varly to Russia with no return, this is a fantastic deal.
Reports surfacing that Varlamov has inked a 2 year deal, approximately, $5.5 million with the Avs.
So in the end, the Capitals turn a 23rd overall pick into a first and second rounder next year, all, after getting nearly nothing in return for him. Good job McPhee!
