A Swedish newspaper and the Washington Post are reporting that Washington Capitals start center Nicklas Backstrom is on his way back to Sweden to consult with a specilist regarding his ongoing concussion problems.
Backstrom has been out of Washington's lineup since he was elbowed in the head by then Calgray Flame Rene Bourque. He missed his 27th consecutive game on Sunday.
At the trade deadline last week, the Caps placed Backstrom on the long term injured reserve. However, it is retroactive and Backstrom could be brought off the list at anytime. Still, it would be quite surprising to see Backstrom at all the rest of this season.
