Caps extend Troy Brouwer for three years
The Washington Capitals have signed F Troy Brouwer to a three year contact extension. The deal is worth $11 million over the three years. Brouwer would have been under contract until July, when he would have become an unrestricted free agent.
Brouwer scored 18 goals and added 15 assist in 82 games last season with the Caps. Brouwer provides the Caps with toughness they needed when he was acquired, ranking in the Top 10 in the NHL in hits, with 247.
Brouwer was acquired in June 2011 from the Chicago Blackhawks during the NHL Draft. Caps swapped their last first round pick that Draft for Brouwer.
