Mitchell to Kings, glad Caps passed

If you were hoping Mitchell would provide a boost to the Caps defense wish no more.  Mitchell has agreed to terms with the LA Kings.  The extent of the agreement is reported to be 2 years for $3.5 million.  Mitchell was deciding between the Kings, Caps, San Jose Sharks, and Vancouver Canucks.

Rumors still swirl that the Capitals may be willing to deal Tomas Fleischmann for defensive help.  Vancouver and Edmonton have been mentioned as possibilities.  Vancouver injuries and it's salary cap situation may require them to hang on to Kevin Bieska, who was one of the players rumored to possibly be in the mix for Fleischmann.  Another potential rumor out there is Edmonton's disgruntled defensement Sheldon Souray.

Given the extent of the deal with Mitchell and the Kings, 2 years at $3.5 million, it was a good, better move, by the Capitals GM George McPhee to leave that deal go.  It's too much for what Mitchell brings.

Does the news of Mitchell to LA now intensify the Caps trade discussions?  Thoughts?  Talk about it in our THREAD.
