Caps force Game 7, Beat Rangers 2-1
It was do or die for the Washington Capitals. They chose to live.
Alexander Ovechkin and Jason Chimera tallied for the Caps and lifted the Caps to a 2-1 win over the Rangers and tie the series up at 3-3.
For Ovechkin, his 5th playoff goal came just 1:28 into the game on a Caps power play. The Ovechkin marker was assisted by Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Green. The scored stayed at 1-0 until near the midway mark of the second period when Chimera stick form his 4th tally of the playoffs. Backstrom added another assist.
Rangers did manage to score with 51 seconds left in the game, but the Capitals held on to send the series back to New York for a device Game 7 on Saturday at 7:30.
Give it up for outstanding goal tending by Braden Holtby who made some really terrific glove grabs in the third period. Overall, Holtby stopped 30 of 31 shots to arm his seventh playoff win.
