Caps resign Karl Alzner to a 2 year deal
The final restricted free agent for the Washington Capitals has been signed. D Karl Alzner, Washington’s 5th overall draft selection of the 2007 NHL Draft. Alzner has become a solid, young defenseman for the Caps, paired usually with fellow first rounder John Carlson.
Last season, Alzner played in all 82 games, recording 2 goals and adding 10 assists. He posted a solid +14 rating. Alzner’s deal was for 2 years, $2.57 million.
According to CapGeek, the Capitals are currently $890,000 over the league mandated salary cap. NHL clubs are permitted to exceed the cap by 10 percent during the offseason.
