With Jeff Halpern skating as a healthy scratch at this morning's gameday skate at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, it has emerged that the Washington Capitals have recalled center Cody Eakin from the AHL's Hershey Bears, and that he is set to make his NHL debut tonight against the Anaheim Ducks.

Eakin was selected by the Capitals in the third round of the 2009 draft, 85th overall, and will become the second player from that class to appear for the Capitals (other picks include Marcus Johansson, Dmitry Orlov, Patrick Wey, Brett Flemming, Garrett Mitchell, and Benjamin Casavant, who is no longer with the organization).

In a strong major junior career in the WHL, Eakin put up 208 total points while establishing himself as a premier prospect for the NHL.

This summer, the 20-year-old was one of the last players cut from the Capitals' training camp as he missed out to fellow center Mathieu Perreault. Embarking on his pro career, he so far has three goals and five assists in 10 games for the Hershey Bears.

He is expected to wear number 50 and skate on the fourth line alongside Perreault and Mike Knuble
