Caps acquire Dennis Wideman

The Washington Capitals made their second move of the trade deadline.  It was a good move that bolster the Capitals defensive corp.  And, it was cheap.

Caps obtained D Dennis Wideman from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Jake Hauswirth and a 2011 third round draft pick.  The trade makes sense as it sures up the defensive corp, especially given to the fact the Caps have been on and off injured with Mike Green and Tom Poti.  Wideman’s contract is a bit big, up around $4 million.  He is signed through next season. I don’t mind the deal though because the Caps really did not give up much at all.

Wideman told media that he will be in the lineup tomorrow for the Caps.  He will also help boost the Capitals struggling power play.  He has point play experience on special teams.

Wideman will wear #6.  Wideman joins waiver signee Marco Sturm as a new addition to the Caps.
