Caps extend John Carlson

The Washington Capitals have knotted up a key player of the future.  The Caps signed defenseman John Carlson to a six year, $23.8 million deal.  The 22 year-old first round draft pick of the 2008 NHL Draft, is now signed through the 2017-18 season.

Carlson played in all 82 games last season, scoring 9 goals and adding 23 helpers.

The Caps locked up Carlson despite the looming doomsday for the NHL CBA.  However, it was an easy resign for the Caps.  The Caps clearly consider Carlson a foundation of the future of the franchise and ante dot get him locked up long term.  A similar deal coudl be sought for another former first round draft defenseman, Karl Alzner.
