The Washington Nationals will send seven prospects to the Arizona Fall League.  The AFL is usually reserved for a franchise's top prospects.   The Nats will send four pitchers and 4 fielders to the AFL.  Designated are:

Pitchers:

Paul Demny.  Demny spent the 2012 season in AA Harrisburg.  Demny to date has pitched in 26 games for the Senators and made 23 starts.  He is 6-8 with an ERA of 5.44.  In 120.2 innings, Demny has fanned 95, but issued 59 walks.  Demny was selected in the 8th round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Nats.

Christian Garcia.  Garcia has had an absolutely fantastic season for the Nationals.  Garcia started the season at AA Harrisburg and made 18 appearances.  He posted a 1-0 record with 7 saves and an impressive 1.35 ERA.  In 20 innings, Garcia fanned 28, while only walking 6.  Those numbers earned him a promotion to AAA Syracuse.  He did not disappoint there either.  In 24 games at AAA, Garcia is 1-1 with 11 saves and a barely recordable 0.61 ERA.  In 29.1 innings, he has recorded 36 strikeouts.  Overall, he is 2-1 with 18 saves and a 0.91 ERA.  Opposing batters are hitting .163 off Garcia.  Garcia was drafted in the third round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the NY Yankees.

Ryan Perry.  Perry appeared in 7 games out of the Nats bullpen this season.  He was 1-0 with a 10.13 ERA.  He also appeared in 11 games with AAA Syracuse and was 1-1 with 2 saves and a 4.50 ERA.  Perry converted from a reliever to starter at AA Harrisburg, where he has started 12 games.  In those 12 starts, Perry is 2-4 with a 2.82 ERA.  He has pitched in 67 innings and allowed 70 hits, 26 walks, and fanned 40.  Combined at AA and AAA, Perry has posted a 3.08 ERA.

Fourth pitcher will be named later.  Could be super prospect Alex Meyer.

Fielders:

3B Anthony Rendon.  Rendon is well known among Nats fans.  he was the Nats 2011 1st round draft pick, sixth overall.  After spending most of the first half of the season injured, Rendon has played in 36 total minor league games this season.  At AA Harrisburg, Rendon has 14 games and is batting .163.  Overall, Rendon has batted .246 with 8 doubles, 4 triples, and 4 home runs.  Rendon has scored 24 runs and driven in 10.  He is currently assigned to AA Harrisburg.

SS Jason Martinson.  Martinson has had a monster year for the Nationals, sky rocketing to the top of several offensive categories in the Nats system.  He started out the season at Low A Hagerstown and appeared in 69 games.  Martinson batted .272 with 11 doubles, 3 triples, and 10 home runs.  He scored 68 runs and drove in 63 while swiping 23 bases.  Those stats earned Martinson a promotion to A Potomac.  Martinson has appeared in 61 games and is slumping at .232.  However, he does have 2 doubles, 4 triples, and 12 home runs.  Overall, Martinson is hitting .254 and leads the Nationals system with 104 runs scored and 106 runs drive in.  He also has a combined22 home runs and leads the system with 7 triples.  He has an overall .455 slugging percentage.  Martinson was selected by the Nats in the fifth round of the 2010 Draft.

OF Brian Goodwin.  Goodwin started the season off injured and has done nothing but impress since his return.  Many in the Nats organization look at Goodwin as their future center fielder.   Goodwin appeared in 58 games for Hagerstown and batted .324 with 18 doubles, 1 triple, and 9 home runs.   Goodwin also scored 47 runs, drove in 38 and stole 15 bases.  He was promoted to AA Harrisburg.  He has batted .219 with 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 5 home runs in 37 games.  Overall, Goodwin is batting .282 with 25 doubles, 2 triples, and 14 home runs.  he has scored a combined 62 runs and driven in 49.  He has recorded a .478 slugging percentage and a .387 on base percentage.  Goodwin was the Nationals 1st round, 34th pick overall in the 2011 MLB Draft.
