Strasburg a June 8th Nats debut?

Tim Kurkijian stated on Mike and Mike in the Morning, ESPN Radio, that we should notbe surprised to see a Stephen Strasburg debut in Washington on June 8th.  Not surprising given the incredible success Strasburg has had thus far in his infant career.

Strasburg has made 4 AA starts for the Nats AA affiliate Harrisburg Senators.  In those 4 starts, Strasburg has posted a 0.52 ERA, allowing just 1 run over 17.2 innings, while striking out 23.  Hopefully, the Nationals will move Strasburg to Syracuse (AAA) soon.  He is toying with AA baseball and clearly does not belong.

So why not just call up Strasburg sooner to the Major Leagues?  It's a contract matter.  According to Rick Snider, a Washington DC sports writer, keeping Starsburg in the minor at least for one additional month allows the Nationals to retain his major league rights for an additional season.  Smart move.
