The Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros, 3-2, in the tenth inning, becoming baseball's first twelve game winner. The Nationals were powered on the mound by the arm of Steven Strasburg. Strasburg tossed 6 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and fanning 6 batters. He lowered his season ERA to 1.08. Strasburg threw 94 pitches, 60 which were strikes.

Strasburg did not get a decision thanks to another blown save by Brad Lidge. Lidge tossed the ninth inning and allowed 1 hit, 3 walks, and 2 runs to send the game to extra innings and a Strasburg non-decision.

Offensively, the Nationals were led by Ian Desmond. Desmond contributed 2 of the Nats 3 RBI, with a solo home run in the bottom often sixth inning. Desmond also delivered a sacrifice fly in the tenth inning to lead the Nats to the win. Jayson Werth homered for the first time this season in the seventh inning to put the Nats up 2-0.

The Nats improved to 12-4 and have take two from division rival Miami. The Nats and Miami face off tomorrow for the series finale. Gio Gonzalez will face Miami's Josh Johnson.
