Nats fall 10-7 to Mets
In a sloppy game in which the Nationals committed 3 errors, the Nats and Mets pounded our 27 hits and 17 runs, but the Mets got the most, defeating the Nationals 10-7.
Luis Atilano had his worst outing of the season, getting pounded for 9 hits and 6 runs in 4.1 innings to take the loss. Tyler Walker also yielded 2 runs in 1.2 innings.
Adam Dunn went 2 for 5, doubled twice and scored twice. Dunn is 18-58 (.310) in the month of May. Willie Harris was 1 for 3 and drove in 3 runs, while Ian Desmond went 2 for 5. Desmond is 12-36 (.333) in May and is hitting .277 overall.
Washington's loss puts them even at 21-21 and moves them down to 4th place.
In the System:
The Syracuse Chiefs (AAA) (24-15) defeated Rochester 4-3 behind 7 strong innings of 1 run pitching from Jeff Mandel. Mandel scattered 5 hits and 5. On the season, he is 2-4 with a 3.27 ERA. Josh Whitesell drove in 2 runs, Justin Maxwell and Peter Orr each scored and had two hits. The Harrisburg Senators (AA) (20-20) defeated Reading 3-2. Andrew Kown pitched 5.1 innings, allowed 1 run and struckout 7. Mike MacDougal (2-0) blew the save but earned the win for the Senators. Danny Espinosa, Chris Marrero, and Jesus valdez each went 2 for 4. Valdez knocked in 2 runs, Marrero drove in 1. Marrero has 3 consecutive games with 2 hits and is hitting .324 over his last 10 games. Potomac Nationals (A)(18-23) defeated Frederick 7-5. Patrick Lehman got shelled for 5 runs in 5 innings. But, a success story of a starter converted to reliever continues as Cole Kimball picked up his 6th save, threw two scoreless innings and struck out 4. On the season, Kimball is 3-0 with 6 saves and an ERA of 1.99. Bill Rhinehart and Tim Pahuta each homered for the Nationals. Pahuta's homer was number 10, highest in the Nats system. Robert Jacobsen returned and was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Pahuta also doubled and knocked in 3 runs as he continues a call to possibly Harrisburg. Hagerstown Suns (A) (22-18) won 10-6 completing the minor league affiliate sweep. Jack McGeary allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 5 innings, but improved to 4-1. Patrick Arnold pitched 3 scoreless innings and recorded 3 strikeouts out of the Suns bullpen to earn the save. Justin Bloxom went 3 for 5 and drive in 3 runs. He raised hsi aerage to .311. Franciscos Soirano, DanLyons,a nd Eury Perez each had two hits. Lyons and Steve Souza knocked in 2 runs. After a slow start, Eur Perez is hitting .344 over his last 10 games and raised his average to .256.
