Nats minor report: Detwiler gains AA win
Syracuse Chiefs lost 2-1. Jeff Mandel (4-4) pitched 5 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 5 strikeouts. 6 relievers then combined for scoreless relief for the Chiefs. The Chiefs offense only mustered 6 hits. Jason Botts provided the only Chiefs scoring with his 6th home run.
Harrisburg Senators won 7-3. Ross Detwiler (1-1) pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 runs, 7 hits and 3 strikeouts. Detwiler also took care of business at the plate, accounting for 3 of the Senators runs with a 3 run RBI double. Marvin Lowrance was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs. Marrero is hitting .333 over his last 10 games. Ofilio Castro and Mike Martinez went deep for the Sens.
Potomac Nationals did not play.
Hagerstown Suns were suspended in the third inning with rain.
Vermont Lake Monsters got shutout 3-0. Chad Jenkins (1-3) allowed 1 run in 2.2 innings, 2 hits and 4 walks to take the loss. The Lake Monsters only mustered 4 hits, only 1 extra base hit, a double by Jason Martinson.
Gulf Coast League Nats lost 4-3. Jimmy Barthmaier pitched 3 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 5. Mauel Rivera blew the save and took the loss as he allowed 2 hits and 3 runs in .1 inning. Hector Tavares was 3-4 and raised his batting average to .378. Al Mantilla went 1 for 2 and scored twice.
