Nats Minor Report: Alex Meyer Impressive in Second Potomac Start

Not a good night for the Washington Nationals minor league system, as 5 of the 6 fell to defeat.  The Syracuse Chiefs lost 5-3 to Rochester.  Jayson Werth was 0-3 as he continues to rehab.  Offensively, Mark Teahen went 3 for 4 for the Chiefs and Carlos Rivero went 2-4.  Zach Duke (11-5), who has the most wins in the system, took the loss for the Chiefs.  Duke allowed 10 hits and 4 runs over 7 innings.

Harrisburg Senators fell 8- to New Hampshire.  Offensively, Chris Rahl was 2*-4 with a double and an RBI.  he is batting .292.  Paul Demny (6-6) took the loss, throwing 5 innings and allowing 6 hits, 5 walks, and 5 runs.

Potomac Nationals lost 3-1 to Lynchburg.  Alex Meyer made his second high A start and was just as impressive.  Meyer pitched 6 solid innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 2 hits, 1 walk, and fanned 5.  Meyer has not allowed an earned run in his first two starts at Potomac.  On the season, Meyer is 8-4 with a 2.74 ERA in 20 starts.  he has 120 strike outs  to 36 walks. Jimmy Bathmaier took the loss, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs in 2 innings.  The PNats offense managed hits 6 hits.

Hagerstown Suns lost 10-3 to Lynchburg.  Billy Burns went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI.  The 32nd round pick of the 2011 Draft is batting .316 on the season.  He also sits at second overall in the Nats system in stolen bases.  Bobby Hansen (2-2) allowed 7 hits, 5 walks, and 3 runs over 4.1 innings.  Leonard Hollins and Bobby Lucas combined for 4.2 innings out of the bullpen, but allowed 8 hits, 4 walks, and 6 runs.

Auburn won 8-7 in 10 innings to give the Nats system their only win last night. Mike McQuillan was 2 for 5 with a home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs.  McQuillan is hitting over .300.  He is the 33rd round pick of the 2012 MLB Draft.  Khayyan Norfolk had a big night, going 4 for 5 with 3 runs, a double and an RBI.  Nats second round pick Tony Renda was 1 for 4.  he is batting .207.  Elliott Waterman (2-0) picked up the win.  He pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 hit and 1 run.  He was the Nats 13th round pick of the 2012 Draft.  Nats 8th round Robert Benincasa pitched 2 innings and allowed 3 hits and 1 run.  His season ERA is 3.12.
