Nats minor report: Stammen shines again
Syracuse Chiefs (AAA) won 2-1 behind another outstanding start by Craig Stammen. Stammen (2-0) really does belong in Washington. Stammen threw 6.2 innings, allowed 8 hits and 1 run to earn the win. Since being demoted to make room for Stephen Strasburg, he is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA. Josh Wilkie took over the Chiefs closer role after Joel Peralta was promoted to Washington. Wilkie earned his second save throwing a scoreless 9th and recording two strikeouts. He has a 1.77 ERA.
Harrisburg Senators (AA) lost 9-4. Talking about jacking your ERA. Yunior Novoa started and pitched 1 inning, allowing 8 hits and 9 runs. Marvin Lowrance (6) and Chris Marrero (11) homered for the Sens.
Potomac Nationals (A) and Hagerstown Suns (A) are on All Star Break.
Vermont Lake Monsters (Short A) won an 11 inning thriller 2-1. Taylor Jordan, a 2009 draft pick, pitched 5 innings allowing 1 run and 4 hits on 4 strikeouts. Steve McCatty, son of the nationals pitching coach, pitched 2.2 scoreless innings and recorded 3 strikeouts. Wilson Eusebio (1-0) picked up the win, also tossing 2.2 scoreless innings. Chad Mozingo was 2-3 and Blake Kelso was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. He is 6 for 12 over his last 3 games and is hitting .385.
Gulf Coast Nats pounded Astros 12-1 yesterday. 2009 draftee Brandon King threw 3 scoreless innings. 2010 draftee, 17th round, Tyler Hanks (1-0) picked up his first win throwing 2 scoreless innings. Adrian Sanchez was 3-4 with a double, 2 runs and an RBI. Tyler Oliver, 2010 draftee, was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and an RB. Wander Ramos was 3-3 with 3 runs and 4 RBI. 2010 draftee C Jeremy Mayo was 2-4 with a double, run, and 4 RBI.
