Nats minor report: Quality start for Marquis
Syracuse Chiefs fell 6-5 last night, despite a strong start from rehabbing Jason Marquis. Marquis threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned run, on 3 hits and 4 strikeouts. Dan Leatherman, recently called up from Potomac, blew his first save, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs in .1 inning. Boomer Whiting for the second consecutive day went 2-4 with a double. Jason Botts went 2-4 and drove in 2 runs. Peter Orr also added 2 hits and a double.
Harrisburg Senators did not play.
Potomac Nationals won 6-4. Trevor Holder was roughed up for 6 hits and 4 runs over 2.1 innings. Newly acquired Joe Testa (Matt Capps deal) threw 2 scoreless innings, allowing 0 runs or hits and striking out 2. Patrick McCoy (2-1) earned the win with 3 sparkling innings, allowing just 1 hit and fanning 6 batters. Steve Lombardozzi was 3-6 with a double and 3 RBI.. He raised his batting average to .299. Tyler Moore hit his 18th home run and went 3-6. Moore, who hovered nearly all season below .200, has sky rocketed his average to .243. He is hitting .364 over his last 10 games. Bill Rhinehart was 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs/. Francisco Soriano had a double and 2 RBI.
Hagerstown Suns (A) lost 9-4. Paul Demny (6-4) took the loss allowing 7 hits and 5 runs over 5.1 innings. JP Ramirez went 1-3 smacking his 11th home run and driving in 3 of the Suns 4 runs. Justino Cuevas went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Vermont Lake Monsters got crushed 10-1. Taylor Jordan got rocked for 7 hits and 7 runs over 3 innings. Rough day for Jordan. Kevin Cahill threw 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 5. Wade Moore and Ronnie Labrie each had 2 hits.
Gulf Coast Nationals lost 5-2. Pedro Encarnacion (0-2) took the loss, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, and 4 runs over 2.2 innings. Mitchell Clegg, on rehab, threw 3 scoreless innings. Randolph Oduber went 2-3 and is hitting .378.
