Nats claim Cesar Izturis off waivers

The Washington Nationals have claimed IF Cesar Izturis off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers.  To make room for Izturis on the 25 man roster, the Nats moved Mark DeRosa to the 15 day disabled list.

Izturis has played in 59 games this season and has batted .235 with six doubles, two triples, and two homers.  Izturis was sharing the starting shortstop job in Milwaukee. The fact that Ian Desmond is currently on the disabled list, the Nationals likely made a depth move to provide depth behind Danny Espinosa at SS and Steve Lombardozzi at 2B.  DeRosa has been suffered from a groin injury.   Syracuse Chiefs reliever Atahaulpa Severino was designated for assignment.
