Nats Minor Rep: Marquis throws 3 scoreless
Syracuse Chiefs nabbed a shut out yesterday, 3-0 over Pawtucket. Matt Chico (5-4) pitched 7 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits. He lowered is ERA at AAA to 3.55. Overall this season, Chico is 6-6 with a 3.43 ERA. Peter Orr doubled and went 2 for 4 driving in 2 of the three runs. Pedro Lopez also doubled driving in the other run.
Harrisburg Senators won 13-4. Andrew Kown (4-4) picked up the win for the Senators going 6 innings and allowing 1 run. Overall, Kown is 5-6 with a 3.59 ERA between AA and AAA. Danny Espinosa hit his 11th home run. Tim Pahuta went 3 for 4 and drove in 3 runs. Chris Marrero went 2 for 5 and drove in 2 runs. Marrero is hitting .295.
Potomac Nationals did not play.
Hagerstown Suns won 7-2. Josh Smoker (3-9) pitched 6 innings and allowed 1 run on 6 hits and 6 strike outs. Jeff Kobernus was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Justin Bloxom was 2-4 and is hitting .320. Destin Hood drove in a run on a double and Brett Newsome also doubled in a run and scored twice. Eury Perez continues hitting a hot bat, going 2 for 2 with a run and RBI. He is hitting .264 overall and .382 over his last 10 games.
Vermont Lake Monsters lost 9-5. Matt Swynenberg (2-2) got hammered for the second straight start, allowing 6 runs and 8 hits over 4.1 innings. 2010 draftee Aaron Barrett got hit for 3 runs over 3 innings. David Frietas went 1 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI. He is hitting .375. Jason Martinson went 2 for 5 with a triple, run, and RBI. He is hitting .308 over his last 10 games and .265 overall.
Gulf Coast Nats won 7-6. Jason Marquis made his first rehab start and threw 3 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits. Billy Ott got the win out of the bullpen, pitching 5 shutout innings and striking out 4. Rick Hague went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI. He is 7 for 21 (.333) since signing with the Nats. Adrian Sanchez hit his third homer and added two more hits. He is hitting .388. Jerrod mayo went 2 for 3 with 2 runs. He is hitting .333
