Nats down Marlin, win 6th series
The Washington Nationals defeated the Florida Marlin earlier today behind another excellent start by veteran Livan Hernandez. The win provided the Nationals their 6th series win already, taking two out of three from Florida. The win today, combined with the 6-5 Mets loss to the Giants, pulls the Nats into a two way tie for second place in the National League East, 2 games behind Philadelphia.
Livan Hernandez pitched 7 strong innings allowing just 1 run and scattering 5 hits. Livo has made 6 starts this season and has posted a 1.04 ERA. Tyler Clippard blew another save, but picked up the win, moving him to an impressive 6-0 record, tying him for the Major League lea din wins. Amazing coming out of the bullpen. Matt Capps pitched a perfect 9th to pick up his major league leading 13th save. Capps is now a perfect 13 for 13 and has an ERA of just 0.98, allowing 2 runs in 18.1 innings so far this season.
Josh Willingham was 1 for 2 and smacked his 6th homer of the year in the bottom of the 8th inning to provide the winning run. Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman also knocked in runs. Dunn went 3 for 4 raising his average to .250 after a slow start.
Next up for the Nats are the New York Mets. Big series for the Nats since they are tied for second place with the Mets.
