Nats minor report: Espinosa homers three times
Syracuse Chiefs (AAA) did not play yesterday.
Harrisburg Senators (AA) won 5-3 behind the bat of Danny Espinosa. Espinosa is providing every reason possible for a September call up to Washington. Besides being one of the hottest prospects, Espinosa is just pounding the baseball. Last night, Espinosa hit THREE home runs, bringing his total to 18 home runs on the season. He went 3 for 5, 3 homes runs, 3 runs scored, and knocked in 4 of the Senators 5 runs. Over his last 5 games, Espinosa is 10 for 29 with 4 home runs and 8 RBI. He is hitting .262 overall and has drive in 54 runs. Andrew Kown tossed 6 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs while striking out 6. Chuck James kept his AA record perfect, gaining the win and improving to 7-0. He pitched 3 scoreless innings and recorded 3 strike outs. Cole Kimball picked up his 3rd AAA save. He is a combined 6-1 with 9 saves on the season with a combined ERA of 2.24. His AAA ERA is 2.50.
Potomac Nationals were suspended after two innings, leading 8-2.
Hagerstown Suns (A) won 2-0. Garrett Mock made his first rehab start, throwing 3 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. Paul Applebee (3-4) gained the win throwing 3 scoreless innings. Ron Wort picked up his 8th save, striking out the side. Rick Hague was 1 for 3 with a double. He is hitting .256. JP Ramirez was 2 for 4 with a double.
Vermont Lake Monsters (Short A) lost 6-3. Chad Jenkins (2-4) took the loss, walking 6 batters, allowing 2 hits and 3 runs over 4.2 innings. David Frietas went 1 fro 3 with 3 RBI. He is hitting .361. Blake Kelso hit 1-3 with a triple and a run. He is hitting .310.
