Strasburg, Werth lead Nats to win over Giants

Although the sports talk shows and news sites are dominated by the talk of Stephen Strasburg (14-5) and his innings limit, Strasburg continues to just perform on the mound.  Strasburg threw 6 innings and allowed 4 hits and 2 runs while fanning 7 Giants on the way to his 14th win of the season.  Strasburg threw 106 pitches through six innings, 60 for strikes.  He improved overall to 14-5 on the season with a 2.91 ERA.

Jayson Werth went 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in three of the six Nats's runs.  Those RBI came from a 2 run single in the first inning and an RBI single int he fifth inning.  Danny Espinosa smacked his 13th home run of the season, his 3rd over his last 10 games.  Steve Lombardozzi was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and a run scored.  He raised his batting average to .280.  He is 17 for 44 over his last 10 games (.386) and his 4 hit night last night was his second in his last six games.

Tyler Clippard pitched the ninth inning, allowing 1 hit, striking out 1, and allowing no runs to earn his 25th save of the season.

The Nationals improved to 73-45, 28 games over .500 and lead the National League East by 4.5 games over Atlanta.  The Nats maintained the best record in baseball.
