Washington Nationals Draft Class Update
Here is our latest statistics update for the 2012 Washington Nationals MLB Draft Class. We rate some of the draft class members based on performance. If we rate a KEEP an EYE on, it is because they have limited stats, but have shown promise. We rate players from good to best based on stats. Those players that have been impressive so far are rated *** or **** or ***** with 5 start being the best in the class. If a player does not have any stars, then they haven't earned them.
1st Round: P Lucas Giolito. After pitching just one game at the GCL Nationals, Lucas Giolito is done for the next 18 months. As we reported, Giolito will undergo Tommy John surgery on August 31, 201.
2nd Round: IF Tony Renda. Renda was assigned to Auburn. After maintaining a batting average around the mid-.220s, Renda is heating up at the plate, including a current 6 game hitting streak in which he has collected 12 hits in 27 AB. Overall, Renda has raised his batting average to .255 and has 7 doubles in 259 at bats. Renda has scored 38 runs and drive in 26. He has committed 10 fielding errors. He has a .330 on base percentage.
3rd Round: P Brett Mooneyham. Mooneyham was assigned to Auburn. Mooneyham has appeared in 9 games, 8 of which he made starts. He has posted a 2-2 record with a 2.72 ERA. In 36.1 total innings, Mooneyham has walked 14 while fanning 24. Mooneyham and he has posted a 1.24 WHIP. We Rate: * * * *
4th Round: OF Brandon Miller. Miller has played in 21 games at Auburn. He has hit .282 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, and 4 homers. He has scored 15 runs and driven in 12. He has a .356 on base percentage. We Rate: * * *
5th Round: C Spencer Kieboom: Kieboom was drafted for his defensive prowess. He has appeared in 36 games at Auburn and is batting .231 with 5 doubles. He has scored 11 runs and driven in 15.
6th Round: OF Hayden Jennings: Jennings has been assigned to the rookie Gulf Coast League. Jennings has appeared in 47 games and is batting .192. Jennings has 2 doubles and 2 triples. Jennings has scored 18 runs, driven in 3 runs, and swiped 18.
7th Round: P Robert Benincasa: Benincasa was drafted as a reliever and has been assigned to Auburn. He has made 14 appearances out of the bullpen and has posted a record of 2-0 with 3 saves. Benincasa has a 3.32 ERA. In 19 innings, he has allowed just 3 walks with 29 strike outs. We Rate: * * * *

18th Round: P David Fischer. Fischer was assigned to Auburn. Fischer has appeared in 11 games, making 5 starts. He is 3-3 with a 4.40 ERA. In 45 innings, Fischer has 12 walks and 30 strike outs. He has a 1.36 WHIP.
19 Round: 1B Bryan Lippincott. Lippincott was assigned to the rookie GCL. He has appeared in 36 games and is batting .286. He has 11 doubles and a triple. He has scored 9 runs and driven in 18. he has a .361 on base percentage.
20th Round: SS James Brooks. Brooks appeared in 38 games with the GCL rookie league. He is batting .214 with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 16 runs, and 14 RBI. He was formerly at Auburn and batted .031 with just 1 hit in 32 plate appearances. Overall, Brooks is batting .214.
21st Round: C Austin Chubb. Chubb was assigned to the GCL. In 23 games, he is hitting .209 with 5 doubles and 2 homers. He has scored 14 runs and driven in 12.
22nd Round: P Will Hudgins. Hudgins has appeared in 10 games for the GCL Nats and started 6 of them. He has posted a 4-3 record with an ERA of 2.21. In 36.2 innings, Hudgins has allowed just 3 walks and recorded 25 strike outs. He has a WHIP of 1.04. Hudgins was promoted to Auburn and has appeared in 1 game and threw 4 scoreless innings. 23rd Round: OF Casey Selsor. Selsor has only played in 3 games and is 1 for 6.
24th Round: P Kevin Dicharry. DiCharry was assigned to the GCL. He has appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen and posted a 4-1 record with 4 saves. His ERA is 2.84. In 25.1 innings, Dicharry has walked only 3 while fanning 25. Dicharry has an impressive WHIP of 0.91. We Rate: * * * *
28th Round: SS Hunter Bailey. Bailey was assigned to the GCL and has appeared in 26 game sand is batting .247. He has 6 doubles and has scored 12 runs and drive in 4. Bailey has an on base percentage of .345.
29th Round: P Leonard Hollins. Hollins was assigned to Auburn. He appeared in 15 games out of the pen. He has posted a 3-0 record with a 2.77 ERA. He allowed 10 walks and has 16 strike outs. 31st Round: P Michael Boyden. Boyden was originally assigned to the GCL. He appeared in 6 games and did not allow a run in 8.2 innings. He recorded 1 save and did not allow a walk, but fanned 12. He was promoted to Auburn. In 11 games with Auburn, he is 3-0 with a 1.66 ERA. He has appeared in 21.2 innings and allowed just 4 runs. Overall, Boyden is an impressive 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA. 33rd Round: 2B Mike McQuillan. McQuillan appeared in 19 games with the GCL Nats and batted .375 in 56 at bats. He was promoted to Auburn. At Auburn, McQuillon is batting .246 in with 6 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homers. Overall, McQuillon is batting .286 with 7 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 homers. He has scored 29 runs, driven in 22.
