Hamels Suspended Five Games
Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels has been suspended for five games for intentionally beaning Nationals rookie outfielder Bryce Harper.
Hamels was also fined.
Major League Baseball announced the penalty today.
Unless he appeals, Hamels will begin serving his suspension tonight.
Since starting pitchers operate on five days rest, the end result is Hamels having his next start pushed back one day.
Heckuva penalty, huh?
