Nats minor report: Clegg, Marrero on fire
Syracuse Chiefs(AAA) won 7-6. Josh Wilkie made a rare start and threw 3 scoreless innings, and striking out 4. Mike MacDougal blew the save, getting hit for 3 hits and 2 runs. Joel Peralta earned the win and improved to 2-0, throwing 2 scoreless innings. Check out Peralta’s gaudy numbers --- 2-0, 17 saves, and an ERA of 0.69. Boomer Whiting was 2-4 with a double. He is hitting .333 since his AAA promotion. Peter Orr hit his 8thhomer and went 2 for 4. Bill Rhinehart went 1 for 2, doubled and drove in a run. He is hitting .286 since his AAA promotion, replacing the injured Josh Whitesell.
Harrisburg Senators(AA) lost 7-3. Jason Jones (1-2) gave up 6 hits and 5 runs in 4.1 innings. How about Chris Marrero? He went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI. Marrero is on fire, hitting .419 over his last 10 games with 5 doubles and 6 RBI during that stretch.
Potomac Nationals (A) won 8-7. Jesse Estrada got the start and got smacked for 8 hits and 5 runs in 4.1 innings. Dan Leatherman blew the save opportunity but picked up the win to improve to 3-1. He pitched 2.2 innings, allowed no runs, but walked 2. he has an ERA of 2.37. Chris Curren went 2 for 5 with a triple and RBI. Tyler Moore went 2-4 and climbed over the .200 mark, hitting .206. He had 2 doubles. Moore has a five game hitting streak in which he has hit .389 with 4 doubles and 2 homers.
Hagerstown Suns(A) blew a great start by Mitchell Clegg to fall 4-3. Clegg pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 8 hits, 1 run, and struck out 5. Clegg on the season is 7-0 with an ERA of 2.95. Where is his Potomac promotion? Clegg is a 2009 Nats draft choice. Jeff Kobernus, the Nats 2nd rounder in 2009, was 1 for 4 with a double and RBI. He is hitting .242. JP Ramirez and Jose Leon both had two hits. Leon is hitting .305.
