Nats pound Rockies

The Washington Nationals continued their winning ways last night pounding out 16 hits and 14 runs to defeat the Colorado Rockies 14-6 in the first of a three game series. The game was called after a 7 run 8th inning because of rain.

Ryan Zimmerman had another banner night going 3-5 knocking 2 home runs and driving in a career high 6 runs. For Zimmerman, they were home runs 7 and 8. Josh Willingham also went 3-5, scored, and drove in 2 runs. Nyjer Morgan, Adam Kennedy, and Ian Desmond each had 2 hits. Christian Guzman pinched hit and doubled in 3 runs.

John Lannan made his return to the mound after missing his last start because of elbow soreness. The star was not what Lannan had planned. He threw 4.2 innings, allowed 4 runs and 4 walks. Lannan threw 91 pitches and 49 were for strikes. Doug Slaten earned his first win of the season throwing .2 innings. Brian Bruney threw a scoreless 8th inning and struck out two.

The Nationals continue to be the surprise of the year improving to 20-15 and sit just 1 game behind Philadelphia. Livan Hernandez takes the mound at 9:10 tonight for the Nats. Livo is 4-1 with an ERA of 1.04.
