Nats Minor League Wrapup (7/12)

The Nationals AAA and AA affiliates were off last night because of each League's respective All Star games.  The International League fell to the Pacific League in the AAA All Star game.  Corey Brown was 0-4, Carlos Rivero was 0-2, and Jim Negrych was 1-2.  Zach Duke, who leads the Nats system in wins, pitched 1 inning and allowed 2 hits and 1 run.

The Eastern League's Western Division fell last night.  The Senator's Jeff Kobernus was 1 for 2, Chris Rahl went 1 for 4 with an RBI, and Eury Perez went 0-4 at the plate.  On the mound, Erik Davis pitched an inning and did not allow a run or hit, but fanned 2.  Hector Nelo took the loss, allowing 2 hits and the game winning run.

In the system ...

Potomac Nationals lost 6-2.  David Freitas was 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI.  He raised his batting average back up to .286.  Adrian Sanchez was 2 for 4.  Adam Olbrychowski (4-7) took the loss, allowing 9 hist and 6 runs over 6. 2 innings.

Hagerstown won 4-3.  Justin Miller was 1 for 2 with a double and 2 RBI.  Bryce Ortega went 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Kyle Turnbull made the start and went 6 innings and allowed 7 hits and 3 runs.  Chris Bates (4-2) picked up the win out of the Suns bull pen, allowing 4 hits, but no runs over 2 innings.  Aaron Barrett continues to dominate in Hagerstown, picking up his 16th save throwing a scoreless and hit-less ninth, while fanning 1.   Barrett lowered his ERA to 2.67.

Auburn won 9-5.  Shawn Pleffner was 2 for 5 with 2 runs and an RBI.  Pleffner is batting .325.  Estarlin Martinez was 2 for 4 with a run scored.  14th overall pick Jordan Poole was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.  He is batting .283.  Pedro Encarnacion, otherwise dominant this season, struggled with 10 hits and 4 runs over 4.2 innings.  His ERA was raised to 1.71.  Jason Smith (3-1) picked up the win and 7th rounder Robert Benincasa picked up his first save.
