Nats minor report: Lannan struggles again

Syracuse Chiefs (AAA) won 8-6.  Matt Chico pitched 6 innings, allowed 6 hits and 4 runs.  Atahaulpha Severino pitched 1.1 innings, allowed no runs and struck out two to earn the win, after Ron Villon blew the save opportunity.  Severino is 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA.   Boomwe Whiting was 1-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.  Chase Lambin hit his 11th home run, drove in two runs and went 2 for 5.  Chris Botts went 4 for 5 with his 4th home run and drove in 2 runs.  Botts is hitting .321 since joining the Chiefs 27 games ago.  He has 4 multi-hit games in his last 5 games and is hitting a whopping .486 over his last 10 games (17-35). 

Harrisburg Senators (AA) lost 5-1.  John Lannan continues his struggles after the Nationals demoted him to AA.  Lannan (1-2) took another loss, allowing 9 hits and 4 runs over 7.1 innings.  He has an ERA in AA of 4.95.  Mike Martinez was 1 for 4 with a triple and Tim Pahuta was 1-4 with an RBI. 

Potomac Nationals (A) won behind a shutout by Brad Peacock.  Peacock (3-9) went all 9 innings, scattering 5 hits and striking out 4 for the shutout, complete game.  His ERA is 4.09.  Chris Curren was 2 for 5 with 2 runs.  Nick Moresi and Jose lazado were both 2 for 4 with RBIs. 

Hagerstown Suns (A) won 9-7.  Paul Applebee started and allowed 3 hits and 2 runs over 4 innings, including 5 strikeouts.  Ben Graham (1-0), recently promoted from Vermont, threw 3 scoreless innings and earned his first Suns win, also recording 3 strikeouts.  Between Vermont and Hagerstown, Graham has pitched in 11 innings and has not yielded a run yet.  He is a combined 2-0.  2009 draftee Dean Weaver earned his 11th save, throwing a scoreless 9th inning.   2009 second rounder jeff Kobernus was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.  Kobernus has raised his average to .261.  Over his last 9 games, he is hitting .391 (9-23).  Francisco Soriano, Justin Bloxom, and Steve Souza, JP Ramirez, and Sandy Leon all had 2 hits each, leading the 15 hit Suns assault.  Souza hit his 10th home run.  Bloxom is hitting .321.

Vermont Lake Monsters (Short A) lost 4-3.  Chad Jenkins (0-1) pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 hits and 2 earned runs.  He struck out 7.  2009 draftees Kevin Cahill and Mark Herrera each pitched 2 scoreless innings.  Davis Frietas and Ronnie Labrie wach had two hits.  Frietas, a 2010 15th round pick, is hitting .356 and has hit .382 over his last 10 games.  That’s the way to get promoted.  Chad Mozingo went 1 for 3, scored and drive in a run.
