Detwiler pitches Nats past Marlins
Ross Detwiler (2-0) continued a trend of quality starting pitching that has played a critical role in the Nationals 11-4 start to the season. For all the quality put hers on the Nats staff, after tonight, Detwiler an boast the best ERA, at a barely traceable 0.56. Detwiler tossed 6 shutout innings to pick up his second win of the season. Over those six innings, Detwiler allowed just 3 hits and a walk, while fanning 7 Marlin batters.
Craig Stammen, Tyler Clippard, and Henry Rodriguez tossed three inns of no run baseball to complete the Nats shutout. Rodriguez struggled in the 9th putting two on with walks, but competed the game for his fourth save.
Rick Ankiel powered the Nats to the win with a towering first homer of the season. Ankiel was 3 for 3 with 2 runs and improved his batting average to .318. Ian Desmond knocked in the insurance run in the eighth inning with a single that scores Ankiel and ave the Nas the 2-0 lead.
The Nats improve to 11-4 and maintain a full 2 game lead over the Atlanta Braves In the NL East.
