Nats beat Cards, Magic Number at 1 game
The Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in extra innings 5-4 to lower their magic number to one game for the NL East Division title. The Braves defeated the Mets 2-0 to put the Nats celebration off for at least one day.
Kurt Suzuki was the extra inning hero with a two out, two run double to score Adam LaRoche and Danny Espinosa to give the Nats the huge 6-4 lead. Suzuki deliver the fatal shot to the Cards after they intentionally walked Espinosa.
Mike Morse supplied most of the Nats run in the first inning with a grand slam home run. Jordan Zimmermann threw 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
Drew Storen blew his first save of the season, allowing a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at 4-4. Craig Stammen pitched the tenth inning to end the game. Stammen got a big double play grounder in the bottom of the tenth inning to help himself out.
Bryce Harper had a three hit night, going 3-5 and raising his average to .269. Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche each had 2 hits.
