Nats fall 4-2, magic number is now 7
The Washington Nationals could not withstand a late 3 run 9th inning rally by the Milwaukee Brewers and lost 4-2. The good news --- the Atlanta Braves lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2, reducing the Nats magic number to 7 games to win the National League East division titile.
Despite a great mound performance by Edwin Jackson, the Nats fell 4-2. Tyler Clippard allowed 3 hits and 3 runs in .2 innings to take the loss, falling to 2-6 on the season. As the Nats head to the MLB playoffs, they have to be a bit concerned about co-closer Clippard. Clippard has lost three games out fo the last 7 appearances. The home crowd let Clippard know it too, sending a chorus of boos toward Clip. Jackson failed to record his 10th win, despite throwing 8 innings and allowing just 1 run on 6 hits.
The Nats offense struggled tonight against the Brewers, collecting only 5 hits on the night. Both Nats runs came in the first inning on a two run home run by Adam LaRoche. It was home run number 31 for LaRoche.
