Gano wins kicking battle, Barnes traded (updated)
Washington Redskins incumbent kicker Graham Gano has fended off another challenge to his job. The Redskins released K Neil Rackers today, confirming that Gano will hold the job of kicker for a fourth season.
In three pre-season games, the Redskins only attempted two field goals, both coming in week one. Rackers attempted two tries against Houston and made one. He missed from 52 yards. Gano has yet to attempt a field goal in a pre-season game. The opportunities, outside of practice, were not present to get a good feel in game situations on this battle.

UPDATED:
Redskins have released RB Lennon Creer. With a four man running back commi9ttee of Tim Hightower, Roy Helu, and Evan Royster, Creer stood little chance at cracking the roster. I don't really see Creer as a practice squad guy either.
UPDATED:
OT Jammal Brown had a ligament in his hips surgically repaired. He is expected to miss four to six weeks. Tyler Polumbus at the moment has seized the starting RT job, replacing Brown.
UPDATED:
WR Sam Kirkland has been released. CB Morgan Trent has received an injury settlement. Both have been told of possible practice squad possibilities.
UPDATED:
WR Lance Lewis has been released.
UPDATED
Veteran CB and former third round draft pick Kevin Barnes has been released. Barnes played the nickel spot last year and has also seen action at Safety. This is a clear signal that rookie draft pick Richard Crawford will make the final 53. Barnes played in 29 games for the Redskins and made 3 starts. He was a third round draft selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. MORE UPDATED: according to Barnes himself, he apparently thought he was released, but instead was traded by Washington to Detroit. No word on what the Redskins got I return, we assume a late round draft pick.
UPDATED:
QB Johnathan Crompton has been released. Crompton was one of four QBs on the roster and spent time last season on the Redskins practice squad. That leaves Washington with starter Robert Griffin, III, Rex Grossmnad, and fourth round pick Kirk Cousins. Quarterback is set.
