The reign of Kicker Graham Gano for the 2012 season lasted just one day. One day after Neil Rackers was released and it appeared that Gano won the kicking job, the Washington Redskins have signed former Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff. Cundiff was released by Baltimore, as the Ravens have handed kicking duties to rookie Justin Tucker.
Gano has not been released and the move looks more like a second look at competition for Gano.
Cundiff, a former Pro Bowler, had a 75.7 field goal percentage for the Ravens last season, converting 28 of 37 attempts. Cundiff spent four season with the Dallas Cowboys and the last three season with the Ravens.
Although Gano was tabbed start by the release of Rackers yesterday, HC Mike Shanahan wasn't all that committal in the press conference yesterday, basically saying that Gano beat out Rackers based on practice stats.
