Redskins Roundup: Griffining is the new Tebowing

Rams coach Jeff Fisher talks about his close friendship with Mike Shanahan and the big trade that brought RG3 to Washington and lots of Redskins draft picks to St. Louis.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch sports columnist Bernie Miklasz found this little gem from John Madden on Madden's satellite radio show:

During his weekly guest spot on Sirius/XM radio, Hall of Fame coach John Madden took the hype to a Hall of Fame level in his rave review of Griffin's opening performance.

"At some point I have to admit that I said this, and it just came out. I said, 'RG III's the best player in the NFL today.' That's what I really thought," Madden said.

Miklasz also does a good job explaining why trading those draft picks to the Redskins and not taking RG3 was the right move for the Rams. Check it out.

Laying on your backside and pointing your fingers skyward -- "Griffining" -- is the new Tebowing." Check it out.

The raves for RG3 keep coming in, but the young man himself is focused on football. In typical fashion, he says the accolades he is receiving are the result of a collective team effort.

While defenses now have some game tape to help them plan for RG3, the Redskins are already coming up with new stuff for him to do on the field.

WR Pierre Garcon missed practice on Wednesday as he continues to try to recover from a foot injury suffered on a the play in which he scored an 88-yard TD. That's not good.

SS DeJon Gomes enjoyed his first career interception last Sunday, but his teammates are giving him grief for not scoring on the return.

John Keim names his studs and duds for defense last Sunday. Like me, he names Madieu Williams as someone who did not play well and needs to improve.

Some interesting tidbits Keim uncovers:

  • Redskins did a good job getting yards after the catch last Sunday
  • Redskins did a good job limiting yards after the catch for the Saints
  • Cedric Griffin played better last Sunday than he did in the preseason.

There's more so check it out.

Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett's Revenge Tour 2012 continues this week. Last week he got his on former team the Saints. This week, it's former team the Rams. We'll see how it goes.
