Mcnabb out Friday, possibly Arizona as well

Written by Mark Buterbaugh on . Posted in Washington Redskins

Redskins HC Mike Shanahan said that even if Redskins QB Donovan Mcnabb wanted to play Friday night, he wouldnot be able to.  McNabb is out with an ankle sprain and the Redskins offense against the New York Jets will be led by backup QB Rex Grossman.

The news does not get any better.

According to Shanahan today, McNabb will likely not play the final pre-season game next week against Arizona.  It is unclear how serious the McNabb ankle sprain is, or if this is more of a precautionary thing to ensure McNabb is 100% for the opener on September 12 opener against Dallas Cowboys.  Shanahan put McNabb's chances of playing the final pre-season games as 'very slim'.

Shanahan has consistently said, regardless of starters, backups must be prepared to play, period.
