Redskins trade picks, select a TE

The Redskins traded their 5th round pick --163rd overall -- to the Miami Dolphins for a 6th rounder [174 overall] and a 7th rounder [219th overall]. The 174th overall is one of the picks the Redskins traded to the Dolphins for Jason Taylor -- a trade just about every Redskins fan would like to forget.

With that 6th round pick the Redskins selected Dennis Morris, a short-ish tight end from Louisiana Tech. Morris won the Mackey award as the best tight end in the nation last year. Morris caught 38 passes for 623 yards [16.4] and 12 TD, the most by any tight end in the nation.

Morris weighs a very respectable 265 pounds, but he stands only 6'2" high. At LA Tech Morris played against lesser competition during his college career and has mostly flown under the radar for NFL scouts. He's a solid athlete, but his blocking is not considered top of the line, so he'll have to work on that if he is asked to make the transition to fullback in the NFL. That might be what he's asked to do since the Redskins are already pretty strong at tight end. This is a guy who will make his bones in the NFL as a special teams player.
