Potential Remaining Targets

Will the Redskins add another defensive back in free agency? It appears more and more likely that tight end Fred Davis and quarterback Rex Grossman are the last remaining targets on offense, with cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and Cedric Griffin still possible on the defensive side of the ball.

What defensive backs remain unsigned in the free agent market? This is not the entire list, just those whom I have identified as potential help in a position group in great need. A pair of former Ravens safeties, Ed Reed (Texans) and Bernard Pollard (Titans) were signed in the last 24 hours. IMO, the 'Skins missed a real, affordable opportunity when Antoine Cason signed with Arizona last week (1-year/$1.5 million).

Obviously, cap space remains an issue and any additions would require associated cuts or restructuring.

CORNERBACK

Brent Grimes- (Atlanta) 5-10 185 (29) Tampa and Miami appear to lead, with his price far too expensive for the 'Skins.

Nnamdi Asomugha- (Philadelphia) 6-2 210 (31) San Francisco or New Orleans appear his eventual destination.

Antoine Winfield- (Minnesota) 5-9 180 (35) 'Skins interested but Minnesota appears poised to re-sign him.

Mike Jenkins- (Dallas) 5-10 205 (27) Former first round pick is still young and would be a solid addition.

Quentin Jammer- (San Diego) 6-0 205 (33) My personal favorite, Jammer would be a great pickup IMO.

Tracy Porter- (Denver) 5-11 185 (26) Medical issues with Oakland the early favorite to take a chance.

Terrence Newman- (Cincinnati) 5-11 190 (34) Oakland also pursuing Newman, with a return to the Bengals possible.

DeAngelo Hall- (Washington) 5-10 195 (29) 'Skins may have no other choice, if the well hasn't been poisoned.

Cedric Griffin- (Washington) 6-0 205 (30) 'Skins may bring back Hall and Griffin, then turn to the draft.

SAFETY

Ronde Barber- (Tampa Bay) 5-10 185 (37) Too old? Will the 'Skins go back to the Bucs well one more time?

Kerry Rhodes- (Arizona) 6-3 215 (30) Cards cut him for cap reasons, would be a big boost to 'Skins last line of defense.

Charles Woodson- (Green Bay) 6-1 200 (36) Wouldn't the ageless, versatile Woodson look great in Burgundy and Gold?

Quintin Mikell- (St.Louis) 5-10 205 (32) Rams could bring him back at reduced rate, would be instant starter for 'Skins.

Michael Huff- (Oakland) 6-1 205 (30) As you might expect, lots of interest in Huff, most recently by the Ravens.

Corey Lynch- (San Diego) 6-0 205 (27) Started for Raheem Morris in Tampa, which means 'Skins are interested.

Dawan Landry- (Jacksonville) 6-0 210 (30) The Jets apper to be targeting LaRon's brother.

Tom Zbikowski- (Indianapolis) 5-11 200 (27) Cap casualty, started for Colts in '12, I'd like to see 'Skins pick him up.

Eric Smith- (NY Jets) 6-1 210 (30) Cap casualty, struggled last season due to injury.

Depending on the outcome of negotiations with Fred Davis and Rex Grossman, the Redskins should use their top three selections on secondary players in next month's NFL draft.
